VIDEO: Cat With A “Rifle” In A Tree

On April 25, 2017 the Newport, Oregon police department received a strange call. The officers were told that a cat had stationed herself high in a tree and appeared to be armed. Yes, you read that right. Onlookers were shocked to see the cat holding what, at first glance, seemed to be a rifle. Both human and K-9 officers of the police department were dispatched to the scene to investigate the situation. Watch to see what all the fuss was about.
According to this article from range365.com, a passerby notified police that a cat in Newport, Oregon was perched in a tree “armed with a rifle.”
Police arrived on the scene to find the black and white cat, just as the caller had described, it reported.
From the story: “Newport Police explained in a Facebook post that when the feline was ‘contacted’ by their canine, it was determined the cat wasn’t in possession of a high-powered weapon, but rather holding on a ‘non-lethal branch.’”
“Reports of an armed cat this morning were unfounded,” police said in the story. “The feline was contacted and was determined to be in possession of a non-lethal branch.”
After it was removed from the tree without incident, the cat was detained and released, but not before getting some serious warnings from police, the story said.
“The cat was given a verbal warning for posing with what could be mistaken as an assault rifle while wearing poor camouflage attire,” police said in the story.
Newport Police did explain in a post on their Facebook page that the story was a spoof, though the photo apparently was not—they found it on the Internet, dating back to last July from a source in the UK.
Officers in Newport, Oregon, reacted in style when they realized the picture they had been sent of the very mafia-like kitty was simply an optical illusion.
The cat’s position and the shape and color of the branch all made the entire thing look as if the kitty was holding a weapon. And since everyone really loves cats it makes perfect sense that everyone was going crazy over this information, fake or not. Truth is that everyone would have been interested even if the cat was just sitting in the tree without holding anything, just being all adorable and in need to get help to get down from the tree.
People have really been obsessed with cats lately and everywhere on the internet you will look you will see that it is now full of kittens and cats and even people dressed as cats. It’s full on cat-mania! While at one point people were watching cats doing interesting things or things that you wouldn’t normally imagine a cat doing, right now it doesn’t matter what the video is about as long as there’s a cat in it. If there are more cats then it’s even better or at least some other cute, fluffy, little animal.
