The Sumatran tiger is endangered, so the fact that a female tiger gave birth to twins is amazing!

After the first cub arrived, everyone thought that was it.

They were all filled with joy and excitement when they saw the second baby tiger!

According to heroviral.com, the Sumatran tiger is endangered, it is estimated that less than 400 of these beautiful animals exist in the wild. Zoos and conservationists are working hard on having tigers in captivity mate so these animals can continue to exist. The Australia Zoo has seen three tigers be born this year!

Kaitlyn is a first-time mom, but she wasn’t alone. One of her keepers was very close by, and many others were watching via CCTV. It was a beautiful moment when the first baby arrived. Kaitlyn started cleaning cleaning him off – but he wasn’t breathing normally, and the keepers weren’t sure if they should jump in to help the cub.

But, Kaitlyn had  everything under control, and the cub started breathing  on his own after a few minutes. There wasn’t  much time for mom to rest as the second cub was on his way!

According to Wikipedia, the Sumatran tiger is the only surviving member of the Sunda Islands group of tigers that included the now extinct Bali tiger and Javan tiger. Sequences from complete mitochondrial genes of 34 tigers support the hypothesis that Sumatran tigers are diagnostically distinct from mainland populations.

Analysis of DNA is consistent with the hypothesis that Sumatran tigers became isolated from other tiger populations after a rise in sea level that occurred at the Pleistocene to Holocene border about 12,000–6,000 years ago.
