Even though the Indian Cricket team was tamed, hockey saved the day against Pakistan.

According to laughingcolours.com, the much awaited and hyped ICC Champions Trophy Final was played between India and Pakistan today. India won the toss and opted to field first, though the pitch at The Oval presented perfect batting conditions. Jaspreet Bumrah struck in third over of the innings getting F.Zaman caught behind, only to be given a no ball later.

Pakistan lost their first wicket at 128 with Azhar getting run out on 59. The Pakistani batsmen did not stop and went on to make a mammoth 338-4 ,all credits to centurion F.Zaman (114) and quick fire 57* from Hafeez.

With India coming to bat with target of 339 the odds still favoured as the batting line up had some glorious names. However, the top order fell like a pack of cards when Mohammad Aamir struck, taking 3 wickets in his first spell. India lost its first wicket without scoring a run when Rohit Sharma was adjudged LBW on 3rd ball of the innings.

Soon Virat Kohli got dropped in the slips, only to be caught on the very next ball. Shikhar Dhawan tried to settle in but was caught behind on 21. Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav soon joined them in pavilion.

However Hardik Pandya had got other thoughts and scored a magnificent 76 off 43 ballswhich included 4 boundaries and 6 massive sixes. He hit spinner Shadab Khan for 25 runs in an over that included 3 sixes and a boundary.

Just when Indian fans had started seeing a ray of hope , a miscommunication got both Pandya and Jadeja reaching the same side, resulting in Pandya’s run out. Later it was just a matter of time when Indian innings got wrapped up at 158 runs,Pakistan winning by a huge margin of 180 runs.

However, for sports enthusiasts there still was a good news with India thrashing Pakistan 7-1 in pool B contest of Hockey. India scored 3 goals in first half and 4 in second.

According to Wikipedia, up to 2006 the Champions Trophy was held every two years. The tournament had been scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2008 but was moved to South Africa in 2009 due to security reasons. From then on it has been held every four years like the World Cup. The Champions Trophy differs from the World Cup in a number of ways.

The matches in the Champions Trophy are held over a period of around two and a half weeks, while the World Cup can last for over a month. The number of teams in the Champions Trophy are much less than the World Cup, with the latest edition of the World Cup having 14 teams whereas the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy had 8 teams.

For 2002 and 2004, twelve teams played a round-robin tournament in four pools of three, with the top team in each pool moving forward to the semi-final.
