VIDEO: Soldier Becomes Friends with 3 Stray Dogs, Not Knowing They Will Save His Life

Dogs keep reminding us day after day why they are a man’s best friend. Sometimes they are willing to do more for us than our own blood and friends and they will never hesitate to risk their lives to save ours.

Even from the moment they are born, when they can move and see they will start protecting you and even attack other animals and people that would hint at attacking you.

When you enter the army you assume that at some point you might put your life on the line and that you might get killed. When you go to a conflict more this becomes a much clearer reality.

You can’t bring your dogs to Afghanistan to fight with you but you can find local dogs that can be your friends. And this is exactly what a brave soldier did. He befriended three dogs while he was in Afghanistan but he never expected that the dogs would be the ones to save his life.

According to littlethings.com, Sgt. Chris Duke was serving in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber tried to attack his base in the middle of the night. He and his fellow National Guardsmen woke up to Rufus, Target, and Sasha — three stray dogs adopted by the soldiers — barking feverishly.

The three dogs were actually blocking the suicide bomber from entering the camp, biting his leg in the process.

The attacker was startled by the heroic dogs and was forced to detonate the bomb before entering. Miraculously, all 50 soldiers survived that night. Sasha, the youngest pup, died from sustained injuries.

One month later, Duke’s deployment ended. He headed home to Georgia, where he got to work on getting Rufus and Target off the dangerous streets of Afghanistan and transporting them to the states.

It was no easy feat, but Duke was determined to be reunited with the two surviving canines.

Hope for the Warriors, a group that works to grant the wishes of injured soldiers and their families, put out a call for help. In the end, a whopping $21,000 was raised to finally bring the dogs home.

Target was adopted by the Army medic who saved the dog’s life after the blast. Rufus is now part of Duke’s forever family.

Duke was stunned by the reunion in Atlanta, but he and his wife covet the opportunity to give Rufus the best life possible, in exchange for his.

Now they are all happy and healthy, both the soldier and the dogs, and all thanks to the wonderful bond that the dogs and the human had. If it weren’t for the dogs he might not have survived and would have never returned to his loving wife.

We owe a lot of things to dogs even though sometimes we might not see it and take them for granted, but they are amazing creatures that deserve all our love and care just for existing.

Always treat your dog right and remember that you are the center of his universe and that he would give his life for yours.
