These are the richest royals in the world
Royals are, unsurprisingly, some of the wealthiest people in the society that they lead. Forbes has carried out a survey in 2011 of the richest royals in the world according to their net worth.
Here are the first four in the top, according to World Atlas:
1. Bhumibol Adulyadej ($30.0 billion)
Late King Bhumibol Adulayadej was the 9th monarch of Thailand and the longest-serving state leader in the world, having served for 70 years. The estimated net worth of Adulyadej household and that of the Crown Property Bureau (CPB) was between 10 and 20 billion US dollars after the Asian financial crisis. He was listed first in the World’s Richest Royals by Forbes in 2008, with a net worth of approximately $35 billion.
The sum was argued by the Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saying that the king’s net worth was incorrect and that CPB’s assets shouldn’t be included. Forbes revised the list in 2009, with Bhumibol still being the first, with $30 billion.
2. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah ($20.0 billion)
He is Brunei’s incumbent Prime Minister. He has ruled since 1967, right after his father renounced the office. His net worth is estimated to be around $20 billion, as Forbes reported in 2008.
3. Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz ($18.0 billion)
Abdullah was the king of Saudi Arabia from 2005 until he died in 2015. He owned over 1,000 horses and owned Janadria Farm, located in the suburbs of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s major city. His wealth and that of his immediate family were estimated to $21 billion by Forbes in 2011. The same magazine said his personal worth is $18 billion – almost the entire wealth of the family.
4. Khalifa bin Zayed ($15.0 billion)
Zayed is Abu Dhabi‘s Emir, the president of the UAE and the chairman of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority – which has an asset base of over $600 billion. He is the chairman of the investment authority that manages these assets. He comes from the Nahyan family, which is believed to be worth $150 billion as a whole. Forbes estimated Zayed’s personal wealth to be arounf $15 billion.
