King of Thailand will be cremated over a year after his death. Funeral to cost £22.7 million

The late king of Thailand will be cremated on 26 October, more than year after his death brought national mourning to the country. The funeral will cost £22.7 million.

The funerary rites for Bhumibol Adulyadej will begin on 25 October and the ceremony will last five days, as the military government has announced.

According to The Independent, a major crematorium is being built at Sanam Luang, close to the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

The late king’s only son will preside over the cremation. After the cremation, his coronation will take place.

Bhumibol Adulyadej was the world’s longest-reigning monarch. Over six million people have paid their respects to Bhumibol’s remains at the Grand Palace.
