Crazy voting in Venezuela gives the government unlimited powers
The electoral authorities of Venezuela claim that 8 million plus people voted to form a constitutional assembly. If that’s true, the ruling President Nicolas Maduro gets virtually unlimited powers in the state.
The most recent reports on the Venezuelan elections by the National Electoral Council claims that more than 8millionn people turned out to vote in the assembly elections. The number has already sent shock waves throughout the nation as it’s more than the twice of the anticipated figures.
The electoral council says that the recorded turnout for this elections is 41.53% or 8,089,320 individuals. These opposition is failing to digest these numbers as even the maximum prediction by a reliable expert ended somewhere around 3.5 million. It makes them stay in shock and awe with a tremendous disdain.
As far as the credibility of the electoral council in concerned, they have been spotless and reliable in the past. All their reports have been a lot accurate up till now, but the taunted reports for the recent election can stir things up even more and take the political disputes to higher levels.
Maduro in a TV interview said, “The people have delivered the constitutional assembly.”
Earlier, Venezuela witnessed massive protest against the polls. People in large numbers had decided to boycott these elections. There were reports of violence as well. Since the advent of these denials in April this year, there have been 125 deaths and about 2,000 injuries.
The opposition leader Freddy Guevara tweeted, “If it wasn’t a tragedy … if it didn’t mean more crisis, the electoral council’s number would almost make you laugh.” Maduro had even threatened to jail Guevara for instigating violence in the country.
The Venezuelan election reports aren’t under the suspicion of the locals only. Several countries including the US, Britain, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Paraguay, Colombia, Panama, and Spain refuse to recognise these votes. The Trump administration promises strong and speedy actions against the officials involved in this scam.
