Chicago officers involved in teen shooting are accused of lying

The three Chicago officers involved in the shooting and death of a teenager are accused of lying and conspiring to cover up the truth.

Nearly three years ago, on October 20th of 2014, Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke shot and killed a teenager named Laquan McDonald. Officer Van Dyke, along with two other Chicago police officers, justified the shooting in their reports of the events that transpired the day of Laquan McDonald’s death.

The three officers, due to an investigation and video footage recanting what happened that day, are now indicted on charges of conspiring to cover up what really happened that fateful day. Two of the three officers are no longer employed by the Chicago Police Department, and all three could be facing serious prison time. Officer Van Dyke, whom is a white man, shot Laquan McDonald, a black teenager, a total number of sixteen times. Several of those sixteen shots fired into Laquan were unloaded after the teen had already been mortally wounded.

This is another situation falling under the racial divide and ‘white privilege’ issue that has surfaced in the United States’ media over the last several years.
