Every victim should step up like this woman did.
Sexual harassment is present anywhere and anytime. It could happen in public places where victims are most vulnerable. Many women are victims of sexual harassment and are being molested every day—sometimes even without their knowledge.
Most victims are scared to speak out, and choose to stay silent. But these simple acts shouldn’t be taken for granted. Men think that it is ‘okay’ for them do these things because nobody is stepping up. But this pervert didn’t expect things to escalate after he picked the wrong woman to harass.
According to the victim, Facebook user 川崎 ありさ, she was waiting in front of Pavilion mall, Greenfield district in Pasig, while waiting for her Uber ride. It was before their lunch break and the woman, together with other workmates, were headed back to their office.
She was surprised when somebody suddenly grabbed her hand. As she turned to look at who the person was, she was extremely shocked as a stranger was holding her hand, with his face in very close to hers! She was taken aback. She shouted at the man and asked him what he was doing. Shocked by the woman’s reaction, the pervert immediately denied doing anything.
However, her friends saw what the man just did, and even thought it was somebody the victim knew. As the woman was already creating a commotion, the pervert suddenly raised his hand and aimed to punch the woman.
Fortunately, a guard at the said mall saw what the man was about to do, prompting him to pull the pervert away. The pervert then was about to punch the security guard when another guard stopped him from doing so.
A few moments later, police came and took him into custody. The woman decided to press charges, especially with how the man behaved.
Sexual harassment is still a very serious issue in this day an age!
According to findalw.com, sexual harassment is a prohibited type of gender discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Although decades have passed since these laws were passed, the reality is that both sex discrimination and harassment remain an ugly and unwelcome part within some present-day work environments.
According to statistics maintained by the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, sexual harassment claims filed with the agency have been on a general downward trend over the past decade. Still, nearly 12,000 sexual harassment charges were filed in 2010, and harassment on the job remains a major concern for employers across the country.
Sexual harassment comes in many forms, but regardless of the form it takes, is a stressful and traumatizing experience for an individual and can be a severe detriment to an employee’s work life. Sexual harassment is not always blatant or obvious, but can sometimes be subtle or build up over time as a pattern of conduct or comments.
