VIDEO: Man is Pregnant with His Second Child. How Is This Possible?
If you would hear that a man was pregnant you would probably instantly start thinking how such a thing would be even possible, not just to become pregnant and carry the child but also the give birth.
Well, this is indeed possible, but only if the man we are talking about wasn’t always a man. We’re talking about a transgender man who has gone undergone a sex change but retained all the woman necessary organs to reproduce.
Things get even more interesting when you find out that the man has not only done it once, but now is about to have a second child.
According to dailymail.co.uk, the pregnant man has given birth for a second time – this time to a boy.
Thomas Beatie gained international attention last year when it was revealed he had become the first legally transgender male to conceive. A photo of the bearded Beatie with a pregnant belly became a worldwide sensation.
Just months after he gave birth to a daughter, Beatie told American news reporters that he was pregnant again.
Beatie, 35, and his legal wife Nancy, 46, had their second child – a baby boy. Beatie was once known as Tracy Lagondino but retained his vagina and other female organs in the gender reassignment surgery because he planned to give birth one day.
The couple took the controversial step because Nancy had undergone a hysterectomy and they wanted a biological child.
In June last year Beatie gave birth to a daughter, Susan Juliette, having been inseminated at home by his wife Nancy, 46, with sperm from a donor. Nancy already has two grown-up daughters from her first marriage.
Beatie told U.S. talk show host Barbara Walters last year they regard themselves as a normal, heterosexual family.
‘We are a man, woman and child,’ he said. ‘It’s ironic that we are so different but yet, we’re just a family, just the same as anyone else.
‘I am my daughter’s father, and that’s all I’ll ever be to her.’
He had to explain this because, while the LGBT community is slowly gaining recognition, most people still don’t agree with the choice of people to change their sex and even less so to their right to have children.
Thomas told Oprah Winfrey last year his first attempt at conceiving resulted in an ectopic pregnancy with triplets. They had to be aborted, he said, and he lost his right fallopian tube.
‘Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am,” Thomas said when news of the pregnancy broke in March.
Mr Beatie said doctors, friends and family had all opposed his plans to start a family. While there are not believed to be any previous recorded cases of such a pregnancy, experts said it was perfectly possible.
‘A transgender man can be pregnant because he has the same organs as a woman,’ said Dr Lisa Masterson, an obstetrician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Beverly Hills.
