VIDEO: Teen Gets the Surprise of His Life on “Britain’s Got Talent”
Reuben, 16, was absolutely heartbroken that his father had a job obligation the day he was going to audition for “Britain’s Got Talent”, but his mother and girlfriend were there to support him. Right before Reuben sat down at the piano, Simon Cowell asked him if his dad is indeed a bigger fan of his music than his mom.
Suddenly, the teen heard a familiar voice calling out to him from the audience. His father gave him the biggest surprise of his life, with millions of people watching from around the world. After that, the judges were blown away by his unbelievable piano and vocal skills. We will definitely hear more about Reuben in the future.
Reuben is a sixteen-year-old singer/songwriter from Guildford, Surrey. He is one of four children, and has been taking piano lessons since he was seven years old. As well as this, he can also play guitar and saxophone and uses all three to create his own music. On his official website, he cites his influences as Tom Odell, James Blunt, Prince and Eric Clapton.
Ahead of his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, Reuben began performing publicly by busking and attending open mic nights. He also worked as part of swing bands to widen his scope as a musician.
According to thesun.co.uk, his mum and dad both encouraged his musical talents from an early age, however his father is often away from the UK due to his work in active Army duty, so Reuben only sees him once every few months.
Reuben performed one of his original songs, Lifeline, during his Britain’s Got Talent audition. He explained that the song was about his girlfriend who was in the audience, and was written after they briefly split last year after he “didn’t really treat right”.
After she dumped him, he wrote the song to apologise and in the process won her back. However, his face dropped and he was reduced to tears before performing his song as his father stood up and cheered him on from the audience.
His dad proudly proclaimed he was his son’s ‘biggest fan’ and ‘an even bigger fan than his mum was’. Until that point, Reuben hadn’t known that his dad had flown over to see him perform, and was under the impression he was away from the UK at work. The proud dad was then seen mouthing the words to his son’s song as he performed on stage. Reuben earned four yeses from the judges, and made it through to the next round.
The boy will surely become a sensation pretty quickly because he has a whole lot of talent as well as a pretty face to go with it. He uses a lot of real emotion when he writes his songs which make them all the more amazing and powerful. He poured his heart on stage and that really won the judges over as well as everyone in the audience and at home watching the show.
