Emmanuel Macron “relief”: How much the Europe’s richest people gained on the result

The wealthiest people in Europe just became $27.5 billion (£21 billion) richer after the Sunday relief, when Emmanuel Macron won the first round of the French presidential vote, according to data from Bloomberg.

Macron is generally expected to take victory in the second round, being the most favoured candidate in the financial markets, given that his election keep France in the euro.

On Monday, stocks across continental Europe surged. European members increased their total wealth by 2.6% as a result, Business Insider reports.

Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, the owner of Zara, made the most on the day, netting $2.7 billion to become the second-richest person in the world. He is up more than $7 billion this year, amassing a fortune of $79.8 billion.
