Google, Facebook and Twitter should share users’ information in order to fight piracy and terrorism
Technology giants should collaborate in order to catch pirates and terrorists, according to a new report.
The Digital Citizens Alliance’s new ‘Trouble in Our Digital Midst’ report suggests that the companies start sharing information about users, in a way reminiscent of how casinos share information with each other to prevent cheats or how retail industry share information about fraudulent credit cards. Doing this might combat issues such as hacking, malware, fake news and child pornography, as the Independent reports.
“While digital platforms collaborate on policy and technical issues, there is no evidence that they are sharing information about the bad actors themselves,” the report reads. “That enables criminals and bad actors to move seamlessly from platform to platform.
The idea is concerning, as it puts citizens at risk. Theresa May already criticised technology companies in the wake of the Londond Bride terror attack, saying they provide „safe spaces” for terrorists. She wants to introduce tight restrictions on what people can do online.
