Our climate and its future

Have you ever wonder how the world would be 100 years from now? Flying cars, floating cities, colonising other star systems, Nano Bots, Bio Engineering, Virtual Reality at its peak and who knows what else. No one can predict or imagine how it would look like. But one thing is certain though and that is the temperature of our climate is increasing.

By using and analysing data from past researchers predicts that our climate will be 2 to 4 degrees warmer by the year 2100. As earth warms up, less clouds forms resulting in more sunlight hitting the surface and thus heating it up. It is understood that the rate by which gases of greenhouse effect are emitting, the temperature rise between 2 to 4 degree is inevitable. The trick scientist uses to measure the effect of greenhouse gases is to double the CO2 in atmosphere and then compare it with pre-industrial levels within 50 years.

Professor Steven Sherwood, of New South Wales University in Australia, who led the new work, said”4C would likely be catastrophic rather than simply dangerous, as an example, it would make life difficult, if not impossible, in much of the tropics, and would guarantee the eventual melting of the Greenland ice sheet and some of the Antarctic ice sheet with sea levels rising by many meters as a result’’. He also added, “This study breaks new ground twice: first by identifying what is controlling the cloud changes and second by strongly discounting the lowest estimates of future global warming in favour of the higher and more damaging estimates. Climate skeptics like to criticise climate models for getting things wrong, and we are the first to admit they are not perfect,” said Sherwood. “But what we are finding is that the mistakes are being made by the models which predict less warming, not those that predict more.”

According to some recent researches based on data from last 5 decades there is a 90% chance of temperature will rise between 2 to 4.9 degree Celsius. This prediction also aligns with the prediction of Stephen Hawking who commented on trump pulling out of the Paris agreement on Climate Change. Hawking said, ‘’Trump’s action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of two hundred and fifty degrees, and raining sulphuric acid,” he told the BBC. The decision of one man, damaging decades of increasing global political awareness of the urgent nature of climate change, would cause “avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet.”

A team at Washington university looked into the rate of population growth also along with the GDP growth and amount of carbon emitted per dollar spent by looking at trends of past 50 years. The research predicts that it is very low chance of temperature rise remains under 1.5 degree Celsius. Another study at University of North Carolina reveals alarming situation about the count of premature death due to Ozone and particulate matter will be estimated as 60,000 by 2030 and 260,000 by 2100.

The experts suggested and urged the importance of bringing a change in policies and to bring a decline in carbon usage along with more research needed in improved technology improving carbon efficiency. France, however, took a step forward and introduced efficient public transport system with the trains who are very carbon efficient.
