Apple is working on intelligent glasses with lasers that project the image on the retina

American giant Apple is working on making intelligent augmented reality (AR) glasses that come with lasers projecting images directly onto the retina. The glasses might be launched  this autumn, along with the iPhone 8.

Increasingly more data comes to back up the idea that Apple is making an augmented reality device.

A series of prototypes are undergoing tests in Cupertino, California, where the Apple headquarters is located. A series of accidents took place because of these tests. The conclusions of safety and health inspectors were written in a report, that later ended up at Gizmodo.

Besides a series of minor accidents, such as, such as burns when getting a fish directly out of the oven or gases emitted by a series of faulty batteries by Apple Penciles, the stylus produces by the American giant for iPad Pro, a series of incidents describe a more complex prototype. ”After BT4 user study, user advised study lead, that she experienced discomfort in her eye and said she was able to see the laser flash at several points during the study. Study lead referred her to optometrist and secured prototype unit for analysis.”

This incident allegedly took place on February 21. It is noticeable that the gadget affected the eyes of the subject and that it had lasers.

Another incident took place on March 2. “Employee reported eye pain after working with new prototype, thought it may be associated with use. He noticed that the security seal on the magenta (outer) case had been broken and had thought the unit may have been tampered with.”

According to a source cited by Gizmodo, Apple is testing an augmented reality device – glasses with attached display.

This is not the only clue: Apple just hired Tim Dashwood, an entrepreneur that developed the Stereo 3D Unlimited start up, which creates 3D and 360 VR plugins for video editing software.

Tim Cook himself – Apple CEO – said in autumn last year that augmented reality will be much more present in people’s lives than virtual reality.

The latter introduces people in a completely new world create by the software, and users can access it through headphones such as those of the Play Station VR console.

Following Google and Facebook

On the other hand, augmented reality overlays all kinds of information and data on real images, such as maps, prices or information taken from the internet. Google also tested the world of augmented reality using Google Glass.

Michael Abrash – lead scientist at Oculus, a company owned by Facebook, claimed a few days ago that augmented reality glasses will become more popular than the smartphones after 2022.

“20 or 30 years from now, I predict that instead of carrying stylish smartphones everywhere, we’ll wear stylish glasses. Those glasses will offer VR, AR and everything in between and we’ll use them all day,” he said.

Japanese group Fujitsu invented in 2015 glasses that project images directly onto the user’s retina instead of using LCD screens, according to Computerworld.
