With Spirit Airlines getting the lowest ranking in airline reviews, this is just another issue to add to the growing list of problems
It’s been a tough year for airlines. A really tough one. With the United incident, to canceled flights due to weather, to kicking a family off a Delta flight, to fights breaking out in Southwest, it’s been one bad year for airlines. It seemed as if the “worst airline” in the United States was going to walk away clean from these messes. Think again. Their issues would only add on to the ever growing list of traveling nightmares.

On Monday evening, it was to be a day like any other at the Fort Lauderdale airport. That is until Spirit airlines decided to cancel several more flights causing frustration, anger, and worry. Passengers had enough and frustration loomed over the airport causing police to be called and make arrests. Several videos were posted throughout media outlets as several passengers and airline attendees are fighting. Three arrests were made, but the main question is why? What led to all of this chaos? Problems lead up to the final straw in the week prior to Monday when Spirit canceled almost 300 flights. The airline stated that the reason being was “an unlawful job action by Spirit pilots”, and that action was being taken against the pilot union.
Contract Negotiations
Spirit accused the union that “The Spirit pilots’ concerted refusal to accept junior assignments or pick up open time flying has dramatically impacted Spirit’s operations leading to cancellations throughout its system.” The disruption caused by 300 canceled flights affecting more than 20,000 customers. Cities being affected the most were Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, and Las Vegas. The Airline Pilots Association stated that the suit was absolute “not true” and “unwarranted and counterproductive legal action” according to CBS news.
What Now?
With customer service in airline businesses facing the worst year, Spirit is now falling into the pool of criticism. With the videos recorded of passengers and attendees in a fight going around the internet, Spirit is faced to leave an apology to its customers as attendees did react in an unlawful way as did it’s passengers. For now, all is up in the air.
