Croatia’s underwater winery is fit for mermaids
Nobody can say no to a glass of good wine, but what if you had to dive and swim in order to get a bottle? You can do this at Croatia’s underwater winery, Edivo Vina.
The owners of the winery, Anto Šegović and Edi Bajurin believe “the sea provides natural cooling in ideal conditions and the perfect silence underwater improves the quality.”
Therefore, the bottles are aged above-ground for three months and afterwards are stored underwater, where they age for one to two years.
The bottles are sheltered by clay jugs called amphorae, which provide them with protection from leakage, having corks and two layers of rubber.
The whole process is said to add a “distinct pinewood aroma” to the wine, while maintaining its taste and quality.
The tour to the underwater winery is provided by experienced divers.
