With over 9,1 million people visiting it, the Louvre is the most visited museum in the European Union, according to data from European Group on Museum Statistics (EGMUS), with the British Museum in London being the most popular museum in Great Britain.
The top three most visited museums within the European Union are occupied by the Louvre Museum (9,1 million visitors), Palace of Versailles (over 7,7 million visitors) and the Colosseum/Roman Forum (5,6 million visitors) and British Museum (5,5 million visitors).
British Museum, National Gallery in London, National Museum of Natural History in London and Victoria & Albert Museum also attract over 5 million tourists.
The museums that attract between three and four million visitors every year include Musée d’Orsay in Paris and The National Museum of Modern Art in Paris (including the National Art and Culture Centre Georges-Pompidou).
Regarding Great Britain in particular, the most popular five museums amount to over 24,3 million visitors every year.
