Brady and Co. stunned by chiefs
The New England Patriots were looking to start off the new season with a bang, but Alex Smith made sure that didn’t happen.
Unrecognizable New England Patriots
Either the Patriots are still suffering from a post-Super Bowl hangover or the off-season rust has’t worn out. Both on offense and defense, the team couldn’t find its groove. The Patriots had no running game, receivers were unable to breakthrough, and the defense wasn’t efficient.
Alex Smith, on the other hand, was very consistent, from beginning to end. The real shinning star on the team was rookie running back, Kareem Hunt. By the end of the game, Hunt set a record for most yards from the line of scrimmage (246).
What really hurt the Patriots the most were the injuries (Dont’a Hightower, Danny Amendola, AND Julian Edelman) and LeGarrette Blunt (Philadelphia Eagles). It’s already a bad omen for the champions. Even head coach Bill Belicheck admitted that this poor showing was due to “bad defense, bad coaching, bad football…”. It’s good to know that he acknowledges what went wrong.
Still, keep your chins up. The Patriots should be able to plow through the Saints, Texans, Panthers, Buccaneers, and Jets. The real challenge will be a Super Bowl rematch against the Falcons (Week 7).
