Has David De Gea played his last game for Manchester United?

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Sergio Romero will start in the Europa League final against Ajax while also hinting that rookie stopper Joel Pereira will feature in at least one upcoming Premier League encounter.

There has been much speculation about De Gea’s future both prior to and since a failed bid by Real Madrid last summer, with further supposition now fueled by news that the Spaniard will not play in United’s most important game of the season.

Furthermore, De Gea has been omitted from the squad for tonight’s clash against Southampton and will not travel to the south coast.

The exclusion casts further doubt about the 26-year-old’s future and it is believed that a fee of around £60m could be enough to tempt the Red Devils into selling.

Dea Gea is understandably disappointed by Mourinho’s decision to persevere with Romero, who has featured throughout United’s European campaign.

The Argentinian custodian is expected to start at St. Mary’s this evening and Mourinho has also promised to hand Pereira his full debut before the season is over – presumably against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

This scenario would therefore likely mean De Gea – who has been at the club for six years – has played his last game for United assuming Real Madrid follow up on their previous interest.

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane is in the process of recruiting a replacement for the outgoing Keylor Navas and the Manchester United number one is reportedly high on his wish list.

Time will tell if any deal comes to fruition.
