Women’s Money in the Bank II: Result and analysis
For the 2nd time in history, WWE held a 2nd women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Questionable booking at the Money in the Bank PPV led to this rematch
Carmella, Charlotte, Natalya, Tamina, and Becky Lynch did battle two weeks ago at Money in the Bank. Each superstar was primed to win and pull off an excellent match. When no one was able to climb up the ladder to retrieve the briefcase, James Ellsworth showed up and won the match for Carmella (technically, he won it for himself).
Of course this sparked a lot of backlash. The fact that Carmella was going to win was not a surprise. What really irritated the fans was how Carmella won. The result did not benefit anyone.
WWE made up for it tonight…sorta
All five superstars pulled off another great ladder match. If anything, it was better than the first. At least the first match provided some form of a learning experience. At the very worst, there were only one or two awkward spots; nothing big.
There were key moments that definitely made this better. When Tamina was pinned under a ladder, she managed to bench it off (with competitors on it) and to keep herself in the match. That required a good amount of strength. Later, everyone ganged up on Carmella when she was on the ladder. As a cohesive unit, all four lifted the ladder and Carmella; to dispose of her.
Of course Ellsworth showed up
Once Ellsworth came in, everyone feared the worst. Justice was served when he was tipped off the ladder onto the top rope; hurting the family jewels.
Carmella won the right way
Regardless of what WWE wanted us to think, Carmella winning was the most logical path to take. With the 2nd MITB victory, she can use that to proclaim herself as the first “back-to-back” Miss MITB.
From here on; we hope that when Carmella cashes in, it better be done in a way that can fully benefit her as a top heel.
