Opinion- PellegriNO or YES for Southampton?

The ongoing ‘saga’ on whether or not the Argentine will take over at St Mary’s.

I was thinking on Sunday about whether or not the green light was shown on the second manager from Argentina, who is coaching in Spain, to join the south coast club. After looking at a number of sources, hey, even Wikipedia had changed to say Mauricio Pellegrino was the new Southampton FC manager, I thought, why bother writing about this?

But as time has progressed slowly since the weekend, is anyone, apart from those involved, in the know to what’s going on? I mean, even some media outlets have suggested he’ll be the successor to Sam Alladyce at Selhurst Park. The thing is, he looks like a Southampton appointment. Plucky, successful in his own way, meaning bringing newly promoted Alaves to a safe mid-table position and a national cup final is an achievement! He seems perfect for the Saints, whereas at Crystal Palace, if we look over their previous managers, they scream English with a certain style of play, working backwards from Alladyce, you have Alan Pardew, Tony Pulis, Ian Holloway, with Neil Warnock thrown in for good measure. But will Pellegrino finally show his cards, or, will Southampton announce one of the worst kept secrets in the Premier League if the rumours are true?

But one name keeps cropping up. Someone by the name of Frank De Boer. Also linked with both positions, the Dutchman tends to be linked with every job in Europe. I only recently were led to believe he was the next Club Brugge manager until Ivan Leko took the hot seat. But with the ethos of what Southampton are brought up on, De Boer would be ideal personally. Successful, a big name on the pitch in his day and wonderfully trusting in youth. Just look at Ajax in the Eredivisie and Europa League.

Talking of youth, just imagine if he could bring Dennis Bergkamp with him to the academy! But I digress. I just feel Southampton is a great club to build and progress individually, possibly being the best of the rest in the Premier League outside of the top seven, but also if progression was an option for the manager, just look at Mauricio Pochettino, Ronald Koeman, even Claude Puel was linked with the FC Porto job! Meaning, Southampton is a fantastic club to take charge of, if either were to be successful, but with Mauricio Pellegrino being the ‘front runner’ at least the Saints have got one back on Liverpool after the many taken, with the Argentine being a former player and coach at Anfield.

The decision is hoping to be made by the weekend. For Southampton’s sake, the sooner the better, but regardless of who will be appointed, I’m sure the right decision will be made.
