Germany in unconvincing fashion beat Australia
Hands down, as World Cup champions, Germany is expected to be a favorite to win the Confederations Cup. Today, they showed the complete opposite of that. One may argue that this German team didn’t have their World Cup players for this match
That argument can go so far. At the end of the day, Germany has all the tools to easily defeat their opponents outside of UEFA. One thing that Germany made clear was their overconfidence. That cost them two goals and it will hurt them when they face Chile.

The Socceroos are not afraid
Australia did not show any intimidation. That was a huge contributor to this match. Teams and fans alike always expect that the very idea of facing a top contender should be what determines the quality and outcome of the match. The Socceroos did not care about Germany’s historical success get to them. That is why they were a consistent threat.
When this team takes on Chile, they will give it their all. If anything, a draw is more than possible.
Germany’s tight defense will cause frustration
The saving grace for Die Mannschaft was their water tight defense. Once the Aussies went on the attack, every possible the German properly marked each attacking player and the others were prepped for a full on counterattack. During the 2nd half, Australia was too desperate and unsure how to break through.
