Nashville Predators keep Stanley Cup dreams alive

The Predators beat the Penguins, tieing the series at two games each.

Last night the Nashville Predators defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1. The hometown crowd in Nashville was lively—numerous people gathered not just to watch the game in the stadium but outside as well on a big screen TV.

If the Predators lost game 4, the odds would not have been in their favor to win three straight against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Nashville got on the board first, with 5:09 left in the first period. Pittsburgh challenged the goal for goalie interference and lost their timeout in the process.

A little bit more than a minute later, with 4:09 left in the first, Sidney Crosby scored on a breakaway—Pekka Rinne almost got his pad over in time to make the save.

Nashville’s second goal came on a wrap around. Initially, it was not ruled a goal on the ice and the light never came on; after reviewing it, the officials ruled it a goal because the puck completely crossed the line. The game clock was reset to 16:15 in the second period.

About five minutes later, Crosby had his second breakaway of the game. This time he was shut down by Rinne.

The Predators stepped it up with a breakaway goal with 6:52 left in the second, setup by a diving flip pass from Carrie Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher.

The Penguins pulled their goalie with 3:31 left in the game with a faceoff in the Predators zone. Not less than ten seconds later the Predators put the game away with an empty net goal.
