Former Newcastle player Cheick Tiote dies

The Ivorian and Ex-Newcastle player Cheick Tiote has tragically died at the age of thirty.

The former Premier League player (who played as a defensive/midfielder ) was said to have collapsed after training for Chinese club Beijing Enterprises, which was the club he had just joined at the start of the last season. He began his professional career in 2005 with Belgium side Anderlecht before going to Dutch side FC Twente where his reputation grew as being a tough defender.

His next move was to English Premier League team Newcastle United in 2010 for a fee of £3.5 million. One of his most memorable moments whilst at Newcastle was scoring the last minute equalizer against Arsenal in a 4-4 thriller at St James Park, after Newcastle had gone 4-0 down at half time during the 2010-11 season.

The Ivorian International became also an African Cup of Nations winner in 2015.

He was a practising Muslim and would have been observing the holy month Ramadan by fasting from sunrise to sunset. Former England Manager Steve McLaren, the former Magpies manager Alan Pardew and current Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez have all paid tribute to the late Tiote, as well former Newcastle team mates and fans from across the footballing world, who all have fond memories of him.
