Antoine Griezmann seemingly commits to Atlético Madrid
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has taken to his Twitter page to all but confirm his intention to stay with the Spanish side, despite reported interest from Manchester United.
The France international addressed his Twitter followers stating: “Now more than ever! #atleti #alltogether.”
The tweet came the same day it was announced that Atlético’s transfer ban wouldn’t be lifted by The Court of Arbitration for Sport, which means they can’t sign any players until January 2018, meaning if he left they couldn’t replace him.
It was believed by many that United would trigger Griezmann’s 100m euro (£87m) buyout clause. The forward admitted in a previous interview with French television show Quotidien that there was a “6 out of 10 chance” he would be playing for the Red Devils next season.
United was keen to bring in the player, and it is believed that he was one of at least four players to be brought in over the summer transfer window. Griezmann is predominantly seen as a number 10, but can play in a wide variety of areas on the pitch.
However, reports earlier in the day suggested that Manchester United had cooled their interest in the 26-year-old, and are instead looking for a forward to replace the injured Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Goalscoring was one of United’s main problems in a season that saw them finish sixth in the Premier League. With Zlatan- the club’s highest scorer- out of action for a number of months and question marks as to whether he’ll return to the English side, a new striker will be high on Manchester United’s list of priorities.
