Opinion: Tiger Woods didn’t let anyone down

With so many sportscasters and pundits falling over themselves to paint Tiger Woods as a lost soul, what has he really done to American consumers but show them a flawed individual?

How many men and women reading this have driven drunk? I count myself included in the tally. Not only have been caught but also times where I “made it home”. There is no more common crime than DUI. In Tiger’s case it was a mixture of prescription pills that did him in, for Jon Q Public it’s usually a mixture of Jack Daniels and Budweiser. Regardless we’ve all been there…..haven’t we? So why the outrage? Why the click bait photoshopped stories that show a once conquering hero downtrodden and distraught.

We all love the divine demise of someone who we once admired. No matter what anyone tells you it’s a curse to be famous. The sweet spot of being famous: people know who you are, but nobody cares what you do. Tiger has never had that type of space in life. Is it a wonder he’s been the biggest pussy hound since Larry Flynt.

Tiger learned this behaviour from his hero, his father. The man who taught him not only golf but life. So when I hear Stephen A Smith being asked his opinion, why am I not shocked that he was characterised as a “Lost Soul”. Between Tiger Woods and Stephen A Smith, the only person who’s ever let me down is Stephen A Smith.

Smith is being paid handsomely as all other sports analyst and talking heads, yet for the past 6 years, he’s gotten every single NBA finals sports prediction wrong. He’s working on no. 7 as we speak. If Stephen A Smith was caught driving under the influence it would be a bigger story because he has an employer he has people to answer too.

Tiger Woods is an icon who speaks for himself and really should never have given into his public apology years ago. Who does he have to answer too? As if fans will stop buying his Red Nike Sunday attire if he started winning again? So what it comes down to is our moral sports code in this country, as long as you are winning the details don’t matter. Take as a step away and you become a Kardashian.

That being said, between these two men who’s really the public down? The man who is supposed to predict sports outcome and know his craft or the man who has kept to himself and wants to be left alone? Is drunk driving terrible? Yes, 100 percent. What Stephen A and writers of his elk are doing to Tiger Woods is shameful. It’s incredible how people don’t’ understand mental illness or any addiction and then act of wonder when a guy like Chris Cornell commits suicide at the top of his game. In a world full of haters who wants to live long enough to be flawed.
