Chris Bosh’s Miami tenure is over but his NBA future remains unknown

Chris Bosh has been waived from the Heat, but questions still remain about whether his NBA career is over.

It has been over a year since Chris Bosh last played in an NBA game as a result of blood clots, and after campaigning ferociously to get back on the court; it appears now that Bosh has already played his last NBA game. The move was no surprise, it frees up $25.3 million in salary-cap space for the Heat, and Bosh will still get the money that is owed to him in biweekly payments until 2022. However, while injuries are common in almost every athletic endeavor, few are as potentially life-threatening as Bosh’s.

This is why Bosh’s NBA future is so uncertain. If Bosh’s former team does not believe he will ever be fit to play basketball again, then it is highly unlikely that any other team will think otherwise.Bosh will now experience free agency for the first time since his decision to leave Toronto for Miami in 2010. In Miami, Bosh sacrificed the stats that made him an All-NBA player for the opportunity to win championships as a member of the big three featuring himself, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

Bosh will now experience free agency for the first time since his decision to leave Toronto for Miami in 2010. In Miami, Bosh sacrificed the stats that made him an All-NBA player for the opportunity to win championships as a member of the big three featuring himself, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

The trio led Miami to the most successful four years in franchise history until James decided to go back to Cleveland. With Wade also leaving Miami to play for his hometown team in Chicago, Bosh found himself as the last piece of the big three still in Miami.

While Bosh can no longer wear a Heat uniform again, he can take solace in the fact that no player will ever wear the number one in a Miami uniform again. If this does mark the end of his career, he will have a chance to join what appears to be the most star-studded Hall of Fame class in basketball history.

The potential Naismith Hall of Fame class of 2021 could feature the likes of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett all going in on their first ballot, with Tamika Catchings going in for the women’s committee on her first ballot also.

While Bosh has yet to formally announce his retirement since he played his last game in 2016, it makes him eligible to be inducted on the first ballot by 2021. The 11-time All-Star and two-time champion has a resume worthy of becoming the fifth first-ballot hall of famer for the class.
