Donald Cerrone Off UFC 213 card

The much-anticipated fight between Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler has once again been delayed. Cerrone denied having an injury on Instagram and instead described his situation as a “super bad infection in my blood,” which sounds like more than enough reason to reschedule the fight.

UFC fans will once again have to wait to see “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler return after a year-long break to take on “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone. According to a quote given to MMA Junkie by UFC president Dana White, Cerrone has a pulled groin and a staph infection. While Cerrone, noted for his toughness, was willing to fight, White has insisted the fight be rescheduled. The fight between Lawler and Cerrone was originally scheduled for UFC 205. Lawler pulled out of the first booking to further recover from his knockout loss to Tyron Woodly for the UFC Welterweight Championship.

After speculation that the fight would be rescheduled for the upcoming UFC 214, Dana White made clear that he did not think Cerrone would be healthy enough to make the card. Both Cerrone and Lawler are coming off of losses and the highly anticipated fight is significant enough for both fighters that all parties involved are looking for this match up to happen specifically.

Both men are looking for potential title opportunities in the Welterweight division. The champion, Tyron Woodly, is set to take on Demian Maia at UFC 214 with the winner potentially fighting a returning Georges St. Pierre in the Fall.
