Neymar Jr’s $263 million dollar move
Neymar’s $263 million dollar move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain has been completed.
Its official Barcelona have confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain have signed Neymar, he is an official PSG player. Barcelona have insisted that his $263 million buyout clause be paid in full. This would complete the richest transfer in soccer history doubling the previous recorded.
Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to pay Neymar around €30 million a year, after taxes (about $35 million), in salary over the next five years. Neymar’s father, who also acts as his agent, is expected to earn a large commission from the deal as well.
Some estimates have put the total cost of the deal to Paris Saint-Germain Qatari owners at more than half a billion dollars, including various image rights allowances and, according to one report a possible ambassadorial role for Neymar during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Neymar who is only 25, informed Barcelona of his wish to leave after returning to Spain from a brief promotional visit to China on Tuesday. He reported to Barcelona’s training center on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday morning, but, with the blessing of the club’s coach, Ernesto Valverde, did not join in training with his Barcelona teammates.
After informing teammates of his decision to leave, he and his father met Barcelona’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, in the club’s offices. Neymar also informed Bartomeu of his desire to leave the club. Neymar was reminded that Barcelona would only sanction his departure upon full payment of the buyout clause in his contract, signed last year and which runs until 2021. The meeting lasted less than 30 minutes.
Lionel Messi, Neymar’s apparently soon-to-be-former teammate, sent out his own goodbye on Instagram. “It was a great pleasure to have shared all these years with you, friend @neymarjr,” Messi wrote, tagging Neymar’s Instagram handle. “I wish you good luck in this new stage of your life.”
Neymar is thought to have traveled on Wednesday afternoon to London, together with his father, where he will review and sign the contract on offer from Paris Saint-Germain.
