ATP Los Cabos, Abierto Mexico – Outdoor/Hard
On Monday, Los Cabos Open 2017, Mexico, got underway for 2nd year in its history with Croatian, Ivo Karlovic defending title. The 2017 Los Cabos is an ATP Tour 250-point tournament.
The Abierto Mexicano de Tenis MIFEL presented by Cinemex will have a total financial commitment of nearly US$800,000, ranking it as the highest in its category in the Americas Region.
The main attraction of this tournament is not just the extra money, but its location at the Southern tip of Mexico’s baja California Peninsula. The main draw is its climate and geography, where the desert meets the sea. A scenic and enjoyable tourist destination. Players who come here can bring their families for relaxation in a way they probably wouldn’t at other tour events.
From Wimbledon to Los Cabos, World number 14, Tomas Berdych and World number 24, Sam Querrey will be two of the main attractions of this tournament and also two of the main favourites to win on Sunday.
Veteran, Tomas Berdych, the main favourite to win in Los Cabos arrives in Mexico for 1st time in his career after reaching the Semifinals of Wimbledon. The number one seed, played a sensational tournament only being defeated by the great, Roger Federer. Having rested the last couple of weeks, the Czech is now seeking his first title of the season with a record of 31-14 (win-loss) this season.
The American, Sam Querrey, who also reached the Semifinals of Wimbledon, was only defeated by the in-form Croatian, Marin Cilic. Querrey, age 29, who comes from an excellent Wimbledon display and has also rested the last couple of weeks is no stranger to Mexico. Back in March he defeated superstar Rafael Nadal on the ATP World Tour 500 Acapulco, Mexico to win the also hard court tournament. His record of 23-14 (win-loss) this season might be nothing special but the in-form Sam Querrey could win in Mexico again.
Finally, Spanish Veteran, Feliciano Lopez, who at the age of 35 is having one of the best years in his career has won one event already this season where he defeated top players like Berdych, Dimitrov & Cilic to win in style in Queens, London. The World number 28, who also reached the final of this same competition will try and go one better this time as he fell short last year to Croatian, Ivo Karlovic.
We will definitely have an exciting week of tennis at Los Cabos Open 2017.
Let the party begin! Enjoy!
