Mercedes announces hypercar, and it comes with unaltered Formula 1 technology
Mercedes promises that its hypercar will be the most fascinating two-seater to ever hit the road. The care will be powered by a Formula 1-derived engine.
Mercedes is working on its hypercar, announced at the beginning of the year and the vehicle will be the first commercially available one with F1 hybrid powertrain and road approval. The highly efficient and powerful Formula One hybrid drivetrain accompanied by a purely electric and wheel-selective front axle drive concept is expected to develop a combined system power of more than 1,000 hp (735 kW).
According to Autocar.co.uk, the vehicle will use a twin-motor front axle and F1-derived V6 engine and it will have a 19-mile electric-only range.
The engine will be a road-adapted version of the 1.6-litre V6 used in Mercedes’ W08 EQ Power+ F1 racer whit an automated manual gearbox. At 1300kg, Mercedes is expecting that its hypercar will have a a power-to-weight ratio more than the Bugatti Chiron.
The engineering work on the car is being done at by Mercedes’ F1 team in Brixworth, Northamptonshire with the company expecting to sell all the vehicles by the time they will present the hypercar at the 2018 Frankfurt motor show. The estimated price is set at £2.4 million.
