Fiat Chrysler recalls 1.25 million pickup trucks
Manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said 1.25 million of their pickup trucks are being recalled as of late June of this year. The reason for the recall being is that the trucks are reported to have software issues.
Software malfunctions on the Fiat Chrysler pickup trucks are being addressed after reports of one crash death and two injuries linked to the errors.
The other problem that surrounds the software malfunction is that the faulty software code on these vehicles could “temporarily disable the side air bag and deployment seat of belt pretensioners – which reduce seat belt slack during impacts – during a vehicle rollover spurred by a significant underbody impact, such as striking onroad debris or driving off-road”, the automaker announced.
The company will recalibrate the onboard computer modules on the affected vehicles.
This is a proactive move on the manufacturer’s part that aims to resolve the issues and encourage customers to report errors in order to prevent accidents.
The recall affects “1.02 million 2013-16 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 pickups in the United States, 216,007 vehicles in Canada; 21,668 in Mexico; and 21,530 outside North America”, added the American-Italian automaker.
