America’s least reliable new cars, according to Consumer Report
Consumer Reports announced the results of their 2017 Annual Reliability Survey and when it comes to the experience of new cars, several types have left owners wanting more. From problems with gear shifts to clumsy rides and unresponsive transmissions, Chevrolet, Ford and Fiat, all have had models that ended up on the list of least reliable cars.
Buying a new car guarantees a hassle free drive, at least that is what future owner hope when investing in a brand new automobile. But some purchases are luckier than others as Consumer Report’s Annual Reliability Survey highlights the models that have left owners wanting more. Here are the top five makes and models that did not perform as their buyers hoped.
Fiat 500L
First on the list is the Fiat 500L which obtained, according to Consumer Report, some of the worst scores in reliability. Drivers complained mainly about the slipping transmission, about the power equipment, the drive system and problems with in-car electronics. The stiff ride and the flat seats also make for an awkward driving position.
With a price tag of over $24,000, this Italian model should not be featured on a smart shopper’s list, especially when taking into consideration the score it received from the National Insurance Highway Safety.
Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta also made it to the list. Thou it is a model that responds well to handling and has proven to be quite agile, drivers have complained over the rough or slipping transmission, the clutch replacement, the power equipment and noises and leaks.
Tahoe and Yukon
The Tahoe and the Yukon, with their luxurious interiors and spacious habitats, have been ranked third when it comes to the least reliable car models. According to Consumer Reports, drivers expressed dissatisfaction over steering vibrations, in-car electronics and power equipment. Driver said that the engine does not seem to respond as it should for everyday driving.
Ram 2500
The Ram 2500 indexed complains about emissions controls and sensors, steering vibrations, 4WD components and its power equipment. These reasons have landed this model on Consumer Report’s list of least reliable cars.
Chrysler 200
The Chrysler 200 has been characterised as a mediocre car by Consumer Report. Handling is clumsy, the ride is rough and unsettled while the transmission is uncooperative. Owners complained about the rough shifting and the drive system. And while the cabin is relatively quite, the rear seats feel claustrophobic, the tight space compromising access and comfort.
Consumer Report also released its ranking for the best and most reliable cars and, just like the previous year, when it comes to brands, Lexus is still dominating the chart with Toyota coming in second, a position it also held in 2016. Buick is the new-comer this year, landing on the third place, up four places since last year.
