This is the average age of the European man and woman- VIDEO
Did you know that in the European Union the average man is 41.2 years old, while the average woman is 44.1 years old? The man can expect to live to the age of 77.9 years, but the woman can expect to live to the age of 83.3 years? Although when it comes to age or wage there are differences, both the man and the woman have a medium education level and speak one foreign language. These are just some of the data that summon up the statistical portrait of the average European man and woman.
Each year, on 9 May, Europe Day is celebrated in the EU, which commemorates the historical ‘Schuman declaration’.
In 1950, Robert Schuman, then French foreign minister, set out in his speech in Paris his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable.
“His vision was to create a European institution that would pool and manage coal and steel production. A treaty creating such a body was signed just under a year later. Schuman’s proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union,” according to the EU.
In order to celebrate Europe Day, EU institutions open their doors to the public in Brussels, in Luxembourg , and in Strasbourg. Here it is the schedule of activities and events for all ages across the EU.
Also, on this occasion, Eurostat published an entertaining video depicting a statistical portrait of the average European man and woman based on a variety of statistical indicators such as age, education, living conditions and employment.
