This is how you can get rid of bad habits

Daily habits influence our lives more than we can imagine: no less than 40% of human activities are nothing but routine.

Despite the fact that is seems hard to believe, especially since we all know how hard it is to make and stick to new habits, scientists managed to prove that habits persist even when the activities they consist of bring nothing good.

In an ingenious experiment conducted several years ago, scientists offered 100 people in a cinema fresh popcorn and one-week-old popcorn. The results showed that spectators that don’t usually eat popcorn when going to the cinema ate less expired popcorn that fresh popcorn, while those that had a habit of this ate equal proportions of fresh and expired popcorn.

Experts concluded that once we formed a habit, it doesn’t matter that much whether it is good or bad.

How to get rid of bad habits

When you want to get rid of bad habits, it is best to try and replace them with new ones. For example, those that struggle with their weight should know that a major cause might be bad food habits, since they significantly influence the amount and type of food that we eat.

Therefore, if you want to lose weight, you should eliminate junk food from your fridge and put right in your sight fresh fruits and other healthy things you need in your diet.

It may seem difficult, but you should know that forming a new habit takes between 15 and 200 days, so try and be patient.

Habits that make your life more beautiful

If you feel bad habits are controlling your life, but want to escape this vicious circle, here are some pleasant activities you can turn them into habits over time: every once in a while donate what you do not need, learn to enjoy the simple things, keep a diary and exercise at least twice a week. Always put yourself first and give yourself a few hours of pampering per week.
