How much Londoners spend on friendships in a lifetime
Having friends can be pretty expensive, especially if you live in London. A new survey shows that the average Londoner spends £39,882 on maintaining their friendships in a lifetime, reports Evening Standard.
The sum includes everything from presents for birthdays and weddings to buying rounds of drinks at the pub.
Weddings, unsurprisingly, are one of the biggest expenditures. On average, a person spends £278 attending each of their best friend’s weddings and £261 on the hen or stag do.

Residents of the capital also like to buy their friends presents for no apparent reason. A third of them will buy their friends presents ‘just because’ and they are the most likely to help their friends through the tough times out of anywhere else in the country.
The survey by Paymentsense also found that 15% will buy their friends gifts when they go through a break up and 15% buy their friends gifts when they lose their job.
