Shabby lumberjack shack turned into a beautiful retreat with minimal site impact

What once was a one-story building with no running water is now a cosy three-story retreat that has all the luxuries of a home. When the owner Suzanne Rochon commissioned YH2, she required that the renovation not expand beyond the shed’s existing footprint. The architects built the shed upwards, without cutting any trees during the process or using heavy machinery, in order to minimise the site impact.

La Colombière is now clothed in dark cedar as a homage to the bark of nearby conifers, while the interior is painted white. A living room can be found on the first floor, while the bedroom and bath on the second. The third floor has oversized windows and an outdoor covered terrace.
