Everything you need to know about Father’s Day 2017
Father’s Day 2017 is just around the corner, and you’re probably wondering how to celebrate the most special man in your life. From being our own personal taxi drivers, sage advisers, personal tutors or caregivers, our fathers have to do plenty of effort in order to raise us, and if they were to receive money, their salary would be of £67,000 per year. It is only natural that they have their own celebration, too, and this is everything you need to know so as to have the best Father’s Day.
In the United Kingdom, Father’s Day is usually held on the third Sunday of June, with Father’s Day 2017 to be celebrated on June 18. The idea originated in the USA and has been celebrated like so since 1966. If you happen to be travelling abroad, you might find yourself in the midst of Father’s Day celebrations in other parts of the world. For example, Germany celebrates Father’s Day on May 15, Guatemala on June 17, Brazil on August 13, while Australia and New Zealand celebrate it on September 3.
The story behind this special day is still rather mysterious. Nevertheless, it is widely believed that the person to have come up with the idea is Sonora Dodd, from Washington, who thought why mothers have their own celebration and fathers don’t. It is possible that she felt like this because her father had raised her and her siblings, due to their mother dying quite young. Another theory is based on Grace Golden Clayton from West Virginia, who suggested celebrating the day in 1908, in the aftermath of a mine explosion that killed over 360 men.
The way of celebrating this day varies around the world. While in the UK, the day is rather intimate, with few public displays, in Germany men go into the woods with a wagon of beer, wines and meats, while the Chinese focus on spending the day as much as possible with their fathers and cooking him the most delicious meals possible.
