The most popular neighborhoods in U.S. move out from major city centers

The hottest neighborhoods of 2017 are located in city-adjacent towns such as Oakland, California, and Bellevue, Washington, according to a report by real estate company Redfin.

The ranking includes neighborhoods that specialists expect to become the next hotspots, based on a growing trend: homebuyers are searching for big, renovated houses minus the price tag a place in the middle of a major city would mean.

This year’s hottest neighborhoods come with longer commutes, but they offer an attractive balance for homebuyers: easy access to public transit, trendy shopping and dining options, larger and charmy move-in ready homes with prices easier to bear.

Redfin measured neighborhood growth by evaluating the number of page views from visitors to Redfin.com and the number of homes preferred by users on the site. Redfin also consulted local agents to confirm which areas are heating up in popularity.
