Want your pet to be safe? Keep it away from these dangers

Anyone who has a pet realizes just how much care they need, and knows that it is important to keep them safe and away from dangers. Nevertheless, there are quite many to keep track of and it can be a bit complicated to have in mind everything you need to properly look after your cat or dog.

Here is a list of everything you need to keep your pet away from, so as to enjoy its company for as long as possible.

You should start by paying attention to plants, as many common houseplants are poisonous. While dogs are less likely to start eating the greenery around your home, cats are more predisposed to this, and will chew or even eat full plants.

You should, therefore, keep your cat away from Aloe Vera, Boston, English and German ivy, poinsettias and weeping fig, among others.

When it comes to food, you should know that a lot of the foods that people enjoy can be extremely dangerous to pets, and your beloved dog or cat might have anything ranging from a mild digestive upset to death.

Therefore, as tempting as it might be to feed your pet from your plate when it is gazing at you with pleading eyes, don’t succumb and don’t give it avocados, candy, grapes, onions, raisins, walnuts or tea.

Your pet can also get attracted to trash containers. Pay particular attention to your trash container, as it may not only be toxic, but has many items that are choking hazards as well. Be extra careful if there are bones, feminine hygiene products, glass, moldy food or tin foil in your garbage bin.

Last but not least, chemicals, cleaning products, and small items pose hazards to the health of your pet. Try and keep your furry friend as much as possible from antifreeze, de-icing salts, human medications, rat poison, toilet bowl cleaners, as well as batteries, beads, rubber bands or tinsel.

Keep in mind that the easiest way to look after your pet is to treat it the same way you would treat a baby or a toddler.
