First-borns are more likely to be successful
This new study offers the best excuse for sibling rivalry, as it shows that first borns are natural leaders.
It turns out first-born children are 24% more likely to work in top positions, like CEOs and top executives than second-born siblings and 28% more likely than third-born kids, according to research by the IZA Institute of Labour Economics.
However, kids who are born later have better chances to be self-employed.
The study shows that earlier-born men are more emotionally stable, outgoing and willing to assume responsibility, as the Independent reports.
Furthermore, first-born kids are more likely to have careers that rely on the „Big Five” personality traits: conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability and openness.
The reasons behind the findings aren’t clear, but they could be attributed to parenting. Most of the times, parents help their first-borns and don’t let them watch as much TV, while they don’t devote too much of their time to helping their second-borns with homework.
This shows that parents aren’t as invested and attentive with their younger kids.
