Is your desk messy? You might be a genius!
If your desks is overflowing with coffee cups, envelopes and papers, you might be a creative genius, researchers say.
Working in mess might be more efficient than precision and order, as researchers at the University of Minnesota say. They tested how well participants came up with new ideas when working in both tidy and disorderly work areas. Thosw in messy rooms generated the same number of ideas as their clean-room counterparts, but their ideas were considered more interesting by impartial judges. Additionally, those with messy desks seem to be more likely to take risks than those with cleaner desks.
“Disorderly environments seem to inspire breaking free of tradition, which can produce fresh insights,” researchers said. This might be explained by the fact that geniuses have more important things to do than arranging stuff on their desks, according to the Independent. Under the chaoss, they have a deep sense of organisation.
Historically, geniuses were always pictured with an untidy desks. Albert Einstein famously pointed out: “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”
