Filling the time this summer
Maybe your busy this summer. Or maybe you have no plans at all. Upon leaving school I was falsely convinced my summer would magically be that of High School Musical 2. It doesn’t always roll out how we expect. Here are some ideas on how to fill the time…
Write
Write about anything and everything, anything that sparks creativity and joy in your mind. Write about the things that trouble you, the things that keep you up at night. And if you feel it’s right to do so, you can therapeutically tear up these negative thoughts and chuck them away. Writing can be a good way of practising mindfulness. Maybe try to take in your surroundings and write about the things that make you feel at ease.
Create a scrapbook
Maybe you already have a consistent creative flow within you and this idea excites you beyond compare. Or maybe this isn’t top of your list of things to do in your spare time. Either way, I encourage you to try it. There’s a possibility of capturing all your special summer memories and documenting them in such a uniquely creative way so that when you look back, you’ll feel warm nostalgic happiness.
Explore
You never really know how big your seemingly small town/city is until you go out and explore until your heart’s content. This doesn’t have to be anything drastic- not everyone lives in the middle of mountains where hiking can seem like a convenient activity. But maybe simply taking a 10-minute stroll can help ease your anxieties from all the things that can tug on you during the day.
Stargaze
Maybe this idea seems corny. And I can understand that. Why would you want to spend your time staring at what seems to be little dots in the sky? But this activity can feel really cleansing. Once you’re staring at the sky, reflecting on the day you’ve endured, you may feel you come to put into perspective the things you spend time worrying about. You can try to view the stars as little specks of gleaming hope; though they’re so far away, they reach through a blanket of darkness to help guide you.
Organise a picnic
Maybe this would consist of just you as the guest of honour, or maybe you have a few friends to accompany you. The summer time often provides us with the convenient kind of weather to absorb the fresh air while enjoying our favourite snacks. Having a picnic can often be yet another typical way of making full use of this stunning season.
