This summer, rainbow is the new black
It’s pride season in London! From pride parades to queer British art, Love Happens Here.
Here in the UK, the LGBTQ+ community is celebrating 50 years since Parliament first voted to legalise homosexuality, and let’s just say, they are not holding back! With two weeks of organised events, after-parties and a powerful campaign theme: Love Happens Here, London Pride this year is sure to blow your rainbow socks off. It might even give Brighton Pride a run for its money…
But the Brits are not the only ones celebrating this season. How about Germany?! High five Angela Merkel, even though we’re well aware you actually voted against the bill, way to stand aside and let Germany speak for itself. Across the globe even heterosexuals are excited, just search #HeterosexualPrideDay on Twitter and see for yourself. Though take caution as with many controversial hashtags, you might find yourself balls-deep in Twittersphere arguments, for better or for worse. In the U.S., both the men’s and the women’s national teams have donned a pride themed jersey during their June friendlies. AND a brewery in New York has even created a gender neutral beer! (yes you read that correctly).
Let’s hope it tastes as good as it sounds!
So while these celebrations of equality and love continue to flood our mid-summer calendars, the majority of Pride in London’s festivities will come to a close this weekend, though not without a fabulous finale, of course. So grab your rainbow gear and get your pride on this Saturday, July 8 (1:00pm) at what’s set to be the biggest pride parade yet! And remember, Love Happens Here.
