Learning life skills – Being on yearbook committee is all about deadlines. Once you graduate high school and enter the workforce or go to college you will be getting deadlines thrown at you left and right. Being on the yearbook staff helps you prepare for that harsh reality. Some other skills you learn are time management, prioritizing, reliability, and the responsibility of following through on tasks when others are just being lazy. It honestly feels like you have a job.

Provides creative experiences – Going out into the hallway to take pictures, photo shopping, page layouts, yearbook themes and design ideas, putting together a yearbook from start to finish is full of tasks that get the creative juices flowing. When the actual yearbook comes in and you are holding in your hand for the first time, it feels like you are holding a medal or trophy. It’s something that you will always have, it’s proof that you worked hard.

College applications – If you are a senior filling out college applications, being on yearbook committee gives you that much needed edge. In a lot of cases, getting good grades isn’t enough. When a student is able to show that they were an active member of a hard working team, it helps showcase their overall skills in multitasking and socializing. Being in such a prestigious club really helps you.
