This woman lives with 1,500 venomous tarantulas

When talking about a household pet, most people think about dogs, cats, birds or maybe fish. However, this woman found solace in the company of spiders.

Ming Cu, an Indonesian woman, shares her home with 1,500 venomous arachnids that she lovingly calls her pets, as Daily Star reports. She has been collecting them since 2010. She is also known as “Queen Tarantula”.

Tarantulas can bite and inject venom into their prey, but they are mostly harmless to humans. If bitten by a tarantula, a person will most likely feel pain, but there will be no long-term damage, according to studies.

Ming, who also breeds the arachnids, said she has been bitten “several times” by the spiders. While this may not be a problem for her, her business partner quit their venture for this reason.

“The challenge in breeding and keeping thousands of tarantulas is that I’m actually doing it alone, at first, and so it takes me time, personal time, there is no me time at all,” Ming said.

Her obsession began in 2010 when she found a tarantula in her back yard. Now she owns 1,500 spiders living in jars and glass terrariums in a special room in her home. According to her, she has spent an approximate sum of £42,000 on her collection. She also runs the website “Spider Lovers Pet Shop”, which sells unusual pets.
