Colombian woman ate $7,000 in notes trying to hide assets from husband
A Colombian woman had to undergo surgery in order to remove the thousands of dollars she ate in notes in an attempt to hide the money from her spouse, according to the Independent.
After she had fought with her husband, she went on to swallow around 57 hundred dollar notes, as she told the local RCN television channel. She said the money was reserved for a holiday, but she was worried her husband would spend them.
The Director of Surgery at the University Hospital of Santander, Juan Paulo Serrano, said: “Fifty-seven 100-dollar bills were found and extracted by the orifice opened in the stomach in the gastronomy, through which some extra rolls (of money) were found in the intestine, which advanced to the colon, the lower part of the intestine, in order to be evacuated by normal means through the patient’s intestinal movements.”
Serrano explained that the bills were not wrapped in anything, leading him to believe she didn’t plan this. “She ate rolls of bills, they were not wrapped up for any form of illicit transport. It seems it was an act of desperation by this woman, due to the problem she was facing, to ingest these elements, and this of course affects the patient’s normal intestinal functioning and life,” he said.
