Katy Perry reveals whether new album will have an answer to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”

After a four year break, popstar Katy Perry released new music and revealed whether her new album features a response to Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Katy Perry described her upcoming music as both “definitely a change” and within her usual sonic wheelhouse: “It’s fun and dance-y and dark and light,” she said. “It’s all of these things.”

The singer also said she wrote about 40 songs which reflect the changes in her personal life, as well as her road to becoming more mature.

“I left my 20s and I’ve gone to my 30s,” she says. “I’ve embraced. I’ve surrendered. I’ve healed some of my issues with my family, with my relationships. Today I’m sober but I don’t know about tomorrow! One day at a time, right? It’s all kind of beautiful. I built up Katy Perry and she was so fun. And I still am Katy Perry and I love her so much but, at the core, I’m Katheryn Hudson and I think that’s being revealed as I embrace who I really am,” said Perry.

In the new interview, Perry was asked if the record will also feature a response to Taylor Swift. There were rumours there is a feud between the two singers when Swift made a statement in Rolling Stone interview, which the media interpreted as criticism towards Perry.

The pop artist revealed that “Bad Blood” was about another female artist. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour,” Swift told the magazine, without mentioning the other performer by name. “She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”

Katy Perry insisted that her album is not about a particular person and that its aim is to empower the fans.

“Well that’s not my question to answer — if it’s about me. I think [my new album is] a very empowered record. There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person.”
