Mel Brooks was born on June 28, 1926 in Brooklyn, which means that he is now 91 years old. During his career that has lasted for several decades, he has won one Academy Award as well as several Golden Globe nominations. He has also done voice-over work for animated family films. Brooks is definitely an actor with versatility.

Even though Mel Brooks is a famous actor, he has actually received acclaim for his writing. He wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for The Producers (1967). An interesting fact is that the winner of the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay was Charly (1968), but that same film failed to earn an Academy Award nomination. Brooks’s classic comedic musical also formed the basis for the remake of The Producers that was released in 2005.

Mel Brooks also knows how to write great music as well. He wrote the Oscar-nominated original song “Blazing Saddles” for the 1974 film with the same name, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for “There’s Nothing Like a Show on Broadway” for the remake of The Producers. Brooks might not have received any major awards for acting, but he surely knows how to contribute to the world of show business.

Brooks is currently doing voice-over work for a variety of animated films. He recently played “Vlad” in Hotel Translyvania 2, and is currently working on Blazing Samurai in the role of “Shogun.” Mel Brooks has definitely left his mark on the world of entertainment.
